Bicycling has this as the steepest stretch of road in the country of at least 10 miles. Goose, Steel or Piney have any of you guys done this.

no but it is only 20 miles from me so I will have to try and get down there this summer.

Anyone that wants to put it to the test; I'll go with.

5200 ft of climbing in 13 miles, that is impressive.

12/27? I was thinking more like a 12/37.

That is a ton of climbing. Its probably a 10 hour drive for me, so I don't know if I will make it there anytime soon.

Archaea, get yourself a Death Ride ticket from some poor sap who paid for one but has no real plans to do it. When we're done, we'll zip on down and meet Piney and hit that road for a cool down.

I'm going to do some of the peaks to practice for Lotoja. Do you intend to head down there to practice?

I've got all I need up here. I did a 75 miler a couple of weeks ago with 2- 2,000+ foot climbs. After the Tour of the Unknown Coast next week, I plan to head up to Mount Shasta sometime in June to ride some of the passes up there. There are at least 3 good roads that I know of that are 7-10 miles each and 3,000 feet of climbing. Hopefully that will be enough to get me up and over some of the Death Ride passes.

Piney, weren't you hoping to do the Death Ride this year? Or was it the Everest Challenge?

My race this past weekend had 4500 feet over 48 miles. The steepest was only 9 percent but boy some of those guys were too fast for this old dog. We've 10,000 feet over 138 this weekend, though I won't get to do it all.

Thats almost identical to the dimensions of a race one of my buddies did this past weekend. It was 3 laps of 16 miles and 1,500 feet each. He got dropped on the second lap after dropping his chain twice on the big climb when the guys were hammering and couldn't make his way back. He soloed the last 30 miles in TT mode.

That's reason #311 why I don't plan to race. I can do a solo 40 mile ride anytime I want without paying money to do so.
