That a driver gets anger b/c of some deceleration for a person who is outside doing something worthwhile and productive shows that he is taking life entirely at too quick a pace.

Last Fall we drove from Utah to Yosemite through Nevada on Highway 50, "the loneliest road in America." In Ely for a pit stop, we met a man from Alaska, in his 50s, who was biking from San Fransciso to Las Vegas. His get up was a marvel -- not expensive and shiny, but ingenious in its compactness and everything just so for accessibility's sake. He was pulling one of those small hook-ons, with plastic containers bungee-corded down. He rode by day, and camped on the side of the road by night, or made it to towns like Ely for the KOA campground. He did not stay in hotels. There is just not much on Highway 50 but mountain range, valley, mountain range, valley, mountain range, valley --- very beautiful in its own way, but it takes a real adventurer to conquer it on his own with just his bike. After talking to him, I felt truly inspired --- and lazy.
What was the guy's name? I think he is a regular poster over at the touring forum at phred.org.

I don't remember his name, but he said that he bikes to work everyday in Alaska, and I think he even worked at a bike shop; in Anchorage or just outside of it. He does long bike rides most summers, often solo, but he mentioned having done some with others before. His wife was flying down to meet him in Vegas (or maybe it was at the beginning of the trip in San Fran) . . . He ate a ton at the Ely McDonald's; was incredibly friendly.

If married, not the same guy. Tourers tend to be very freindly people. In fact, IMO, in the bike world the most friendly folks are tandem riders and tourers. Racers not so much so.

Back to the original article, the driver will be charged with felonies, as he should, IMO.

Disgusting.
This guy should be drawn and quartered..

Attach a 100 yard rope to each arm and leg. Put the 4 best time trialists in the world, and attach the other end to their bikes. At the gun, each bicyclist goes into a full sprint. You would need a very big concrete lot, or go out to the salt flats to do this properly. Rope might have too much elasticity. You might need metal cables.

Btw, "former doctor" means he might have lost his license and been censured by the medical board.

No way he gets 7 years in jail. He will probably only get probation.

These guys should sue the hell out of him in civil court. Sue the LAPD while they are at it, for not responding to the first incident.
