Another Pinewood Derby post...
the 8 year old boy had a grand time tonight. He ended up taking 2nd place and was proud of himself, as he should have been.
The kid who took first was a boy whose family is inactive, so it was good to see this happen as it was a positive experience for the boy and his family members who were there. It turns out that there is only one kid in Cub Scouts whose dad is an engineer. He and his dad made a beautiful car that just looked like it would eat up the track and leave everyone in the dust; however, this car ended up in the middle of the pack overall. The funniest comment from our boy was when his older brother said to him "Next year, you should have dad help you more with your car, Griff. If you finished 2nd place in a car you made - maybe you will win with his help", to which Griff replied rather frankly: "He didn't help me this year and I took 2nd place. Dad helping me would just make me lose."
