Dylan is cool, but I guess I would have to get pretty philosophical and rationalize one of his current reincarnations to put him in the category of "new." how about radiohead? OK Computer squeaks under the door, released in 1997, and pretty much defined a new direction for the band. For something more recent I might go with BSS, which is less interesting to me musically, but which is doing something very cool with the idea of a "rock band." they are really a rock collective.

Spoon is rad.
Also on SNL recently. I wonder how NorCal is defining rock. I think he is referring to guitar driven pop rock, such as Foo. I dont think Spoon, being more an indy pop band, would fit that mold. But maybe it does. Either way, Spoon is great.

These guys are good
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead And I have really enjoyed Black Mountain's Album But neither have put enough out to be called best of the last 10-12 years. |
