I'm trying to think if you can really argue that Led Zeppelin really got better with time. Some might say that IV was their best, but I don't think anyone really thinks the stuff after IV was their best. But I through IV, that's some good stuff.

Beatles--too much fluff. How many songs can you write about falling in love with a girl?

Some folks like Sting have long distinguished careers. I was a fan of the police back towards the end of their days, but I can't really stand Sting's music, and the Police are passable, not brilliant. So long careers don't mean much to me.
For the first time, I pretty much agree with everything you said.

Mostly. I think Houses of the Holy is right up there with II and IV. And unlike U2, the Stones, Rush, etc. they never put out crappy music.

It's probably a good thing when someone dies and the band breaks up, so we don't have to witness the inevitable slow and embarassing slide into mediocrity.

I can listen to IV all day long and Houses of the Holy rocks. I'm anxious to hear how Raising Sand sounds.

Rush is better than you guys give the Canucks credit. Lee's voice drives some people mad.

I like Sting and the Police are okay. U2 is awful now, so I stopped listening.

I used to be a huge Rush fan, and I still like alot of their music. They're great live. But they've gone downhill, at least album-wise. I haven't liked any of their stuff since Presto.

I don't expect a band to be as innovative or as interesting thirty years later.

Exactly, which is why it's better for someone to choke to death on his own vomit, so we'll only remember them as innovative and interesting.

If you can ignore the shoddy camera work, EVH sounds awesome here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdwy1zM03Zg

Other than the revolving singers (and I like both Hagar and Roth), the problem with EVH is legacy. Guitar players have tried to imitate him, but they lack the style and song sense. The guitar sounds like its alive in the hands of EVH, but imitators just sound like spazzes, or like they think playing a lot of hammer ons and pull aways is the whole gig.

Someone needs to tell me how to embed YouTube...

From the link you posted, cut everything from http through the = sign. Place everything after the = between the youtube brackets.

Another good one from the same show...

I'm pissed they're not coming to SLC.
