If Rush owns the Rams....
there are headlines that if Rush Limbaugh becomes the owner of the Rams, that black players will boycott the team.
Of course, I don't believe that. Rush's money spends just like any other money, and I don't think that many are idealistic enough to walk away from millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars. But let's imagine this: can an all-white team win in the NFL? It sure would be a somewhat interesting experiment in today's era of sports, where there is a kind of reverse-racism. That is, the assumption that if you are white, you are likely an inferior athlete. Esp. at the non-QB skill positions. And the angle that if you are good, it's not because of your athleticism, but due to your headiness (i.e. intelligence). In other words, an all-white team might actually DEFEAT racism. Or it might reinforce our racist beliefs. We don't know. And that's why it would be interesting. Of course, this won't happen. It's about as likely to happen as Al Sharpton becoming the Rams head coach. |
