Default Melanie Oudin

She is the 17yo American female who is doing well in the U.S. Open, after a nice run in Wimbledon as well.

Part of what everyone remarks on, besides her tender age, is her height. She is extremely short. She looks like a midget on the court.

So I go to wikipedia, and it says she is 5'6". My wife is 5'7", maybe 5'8". She is barely shorter than my wife, whom I don't consider a midget.

I guess it's all the other women in tennis who are just taller, and make her seem so short.

Well, here's to an American underdog. We can all root for that. [Unless, she is the daughter of a Frechman. Which unfortunately, she is. So we can root for her to fall on her face, and end up plastered at some community college].

hmm. . . I haven't heard too much discussion about her height. I hear them talking about her being a twin more than that. But it's true that most of the top women are around 6 feet. Height among the men is also becoming more common than it used to be, with the likes of Del Potro, Isner, Cilic.

I think it's great to see her doing so well. She makes me more interested in the women's matches than I otherwise would be.

ah, well, thanks for the run Oudin. I hope we continue to see her breaking through. I'm tired of the Williams sisters storyline.

Yes, the Oudin storyline is much more interesting. Her mother beds her coach.

Apparently dad is not so happy, and has filed for divorce.

nice. I didn't read the gossip. I (mostly) just watch the matches.

Did you see Serena's antics tonight? That's another good story in tennis.

When I was in junior high and high school, there were occasionally "girl fights." That is, fights between two girls. I think every single one of them that I saw was between two African-American girls. And clothes were frequently ripped off in these fights, although I don't recall it ever led to nekidness.

Thanks Serena, for bringing back these memories.

yeah, I saw that incident with Serena. You couldn't miss it in tennis coverage. Quite a tirade. Unfortunate for Clijsters, because she was playing much better and would have won anyway.

So thanks for Serena for spicing up her storyline again. But it still doesn't beat a returning mom taking the US Open title. That's a much nicer story.
