The priesthood leader should have shut that down
That was totally inappropriate. The HP Group Leader should have shut it down when it turned political like that.

It has been my experience that at times the "crazies" end up getting much more air-time in church than they deserve.
Reasonable people tend to be tactful and not say anything, as well as wanting to avoid contention, in general. I am more and more getting to the point where I believe it is wise to step in and say things like "I don't believe this sort of political discussion is appropriate." If I am lucky, then the coversation will stop and I will not be recommended for a calling in the next couple years. |

1. You should have brought up the Church's repeated official statement of political neutrality.
2. IMO, the Iraq War will indeed help open up avenues for the Gospel to be preached in the Middle East. Religious freedom, in some shape or form, is an inevitable byproduct of democracy. |

In the Ensign this month, in the news section they announced a new DVD that is for members in the millitary. Here is a quote from the article:
“Do not despair because there are some who question the rightness of the cause in which you are enlisted to fight and for which you may sacrifice so much,” he said. “The Lord will find a way eventually to turn the course of political events to his purposes.” The Lord uses all things and I wouldn't think that this war is any different. I have never really understood why people get bugged when talking about how our world effects our religion.

I have soooooooooooo been in your shoes.
Although I am glad that I'm serving in the primary because it helps me avoid such discussions, as well as forego my occasional trips to the foyer to get some air, I'm actually more inclined to speak up these days. I've even had a person or two thank me for saying something...
