Update on tragedy
So far, friend is alive, and in need of lots of therapy, but may not need spine surgery immediately. Missed dying by paralysis by microns and death by a bit more. The dude has nine lives, but four or five have been exhausted.
I've been speaking to him about the potential for becoming a poster boy for cycling awareness and stiffer penalties for crimes against cyclists. If anybody is involved with these groups please send information you have so that I may compile a complete aggregation of legal codes.

He was found seven or eight miles away, but is a low life, one of those types who drops out of society, barely staying out of jail. Thanks for the well wishes, but it seems like a good cause to get involved in, cycling safety awareness.

Archaea, what will become of the perps? Fleeing the scene of an accident, felonious assault, shoot it sounds like a decent case of attempted murder, frankly....there arent many reasons to swerve and smash into someone on a bike. did the guy make bail or is he sitting in a tank somewhere?

If I weren't a cyclist, I'd be unaware, in all probability too. In the last six months, I've had four hit and run cases on cyclists. Each time the motorist was cited but each time the motorist was angry because the cyclist was simply there.

That sucks!
Earlier this year we had a guy (in a white base model Pontiac G6) in Southern Highlands take an extreme dislike to us being in his way and started reving his engine behind us, screaming at us to "get the f***k onto the sidewalk", and then pulling in front of us and slamming on the brakes. Thing is, we were cruising at 20 mph and it was a four lane road with very little traffic. I was trying to get his plate number (one of those Las Vegas plates with the black panel) when he did his little braking maneuver and I went one way and my buddy went another. Last week we were nearly taken out by a little mexican dude in a really old Mazda pickup. He just wasn't paying attention as we rode through a construction zone on Spencer. Once he saw us he slowed right down. There are all kinds of hazardous drivers around. It's unfortunate that law enforcement doesn't seem to care and nearly always takes the side of the motorist when there is a collision. It guess it is easier for them. mbb Last edited by mattbikeboy; 11-04-2008 at 04:09 PM. |

You know my buddy, at least you should. Have you seen Mike recently, last I rode with him, his back was hurting him?
