Default The Kingdom

My wife and I saw a sneak preview of 'The Kingdom.' Interesting. At times it can seem a little heavy handed and it tries to do too much in trying to have the viewer 'understand' the issues of Saudi Arabia, terrorism, the muslim world, etc.

With that said, it was pretty entertaining. Jamie Foxx was very good and Jennifer Garner did a nice job. Jason Bateman was very good in a serious, though he was very funny, role as another FBI agent. Overall, it was good action, interesting plot and very disturbing terrorist images. Pretty good.

I'm really anxious to see this one.

However, I've one question. Director Peter Berg tends to have what I called "Bourne Disease" in that every movie he directs the camera is shaky the entire time and after awhile it gets annoying as hell.

Was The Kingdom shot the same way?

Bourne Supremacy made me motion sick in the theater, though Ultimatum did not.

People who complain about shaky cameras are pussies.

At least you admit it.

There is some shakiness to the Kingdom. It is not as bad as in Bourne, but you will notice it. Shaky cameras have never bothered me and this did not, it bothered my wife once or twice though in this one.

I've been very interested in this movie for a while now.

I think I'll see it this weekend.

Totally off topic, but I worked for two months in SA in my younger days. We would often go to the local Kodak guy for supplies and occasionally he was out. He would punch a few things into his computer and then turn to us and say, "There is none to be found in The Kingdom!"

Guess you had to be there.

It was also during the Hajj and one TV channel was the 24-7 Hajj network; one continuous shot of worshipers circling the Kaaba. Nothing else. 24-7.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
