Seems like the right decision to me. Not sure what the disciplinary action at home will consist of, but terminating the mission is an appropriate part of the punishment. The church's apology was complete and sincere.

LDS Church officials also noted that those missionaries who had since returned will face disciplinary action from the church.
What could that disciplinary action possibly be?

I think this is a cause for some reflection. It would appear that the Catholic Church, at least institutionally, had accepted the apology and moved on. Had missionaries from another church, say the JW's, desecrated a ward building or a temple, I hope that all of us would be as willing to forgive.

A good ending to an ugly story. Bravo to the catholics.

Next step for me...time to find someone who speaks Thai to translate.
Meanie here, posting under Mrs. Meanie's account because I'm too lazy to log her off and log myself in:

Umm, I speak and read Thai; however, I'm not sure you would believe my translation. You would probably just chalk it up to urban legend or something...

There is also more to this story than is apparant from the Thai newspapers. In the US, various people were upset that the church let the elders sit in jail for 6 months. They thought the church "hung them out to dry", so to speak. I believe that there were certain diplomatic attempts to get the elders out of jail but they weren't successful.
