Christmas service revisited
We had an excellent lesson yesterday, but it was in no way related to Christmas. Christmas service is reserved for Wednesday and Thursday.
Here's the unfortunate part: The clergy, knowing that this week is their one shot with the several hundred people who will attend church just this one time per year, plan the most cutesy, commercial, watered-down, safe little program for the Christmas service. They do it every year. I hate it. This will be the only time this year that my husband will attend church, and the service is going to confirm all his stereotypes about American Christianity. Now if he'd gone yesterday, he'd have heard an intelligent, insightful commentary. But no, he's going on Wednesday, to a service the clergy has tailored just for him, and he'll get an anemic lesson and a healthy dose of McChurch. yuck. |

So a word to the pastor would not be received favorably?

So, what? No snakes on Wednesday?

When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |

I was mistaken. Apparently the protocol is to turn *up* the amp. It was enough to give even the members of Metallica a headache. The nine-year-old loved it.
