Default Hamstring injury........

About 2 months ago I felt a twinge in my hamstring. It would hurt every once in a while but nothing real serious. I took it easy for a few days and rested it a little but I was not to worried. Fast forward to Saturday morning, I am playing basketball when my hammy starts to hurt. I go out of the game and it wasnt to bad when I went home. About 3 hours later the pain became almost unbearable and it has not subsided since. I can barely walk, I have constant pain in my hamstring no matter what I am doing. Even sitting down hurts it. I have been taking anti-inflammatorys but they are really not helping, I have tried Ice, Icy-hot, ibuprofen and everything else, nothing seems to be helping.

I have never felt pain like this, and now my calf is starting to hurt because I have been limping and putting extra strain on it.

Any suggestions?

Hamstring injuries can be a real pain in the butt. I've seen people bothered by a grade 2 or 3 strain for 18 months to 2 years.

Initial treatment is the same for most injuries (RICE). You're probably okay to begin some light massage and stretching by now. You can also begin, but go very easy on, some hamstring isometrics. Alternate heat and ice. Wrap an ice bandage around it for some compression.

In a week or 2 you should be able to start a light progressive resistance exercise program.

Hoops are likely done for awhile.
