These people are in my FIL's ward. He was good friends with the father and had kind of taken the son under his wing to try to help him. The son had suffered from mental illness but had been taking medication and doing much better. But the son had recently stopped taking medication and that's what led to the confrontation resulting in the father's death.

I was in San Diego last week and there was a similar story about a mentally ill 14 year old who killed her mother with a hammer.
