Default Poorly Considered Acronyms?

I'm new here and was referred by SoonerCoug. He says this board is composed mostly of intelligent, articulate people, so even though I took the poll and answered that I do not believe his crazy stories, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt here and joining up.
That said, here are the reasons for the title of my post. I have encountered two unfortunate acronyms in various media over the last couple of weeks. One is SLUT (South Lake Union Trolley) and the other is ASCOC. Are these marketing teams asleep at the wheel?

Thanks, Seattle and thank you, ASCOC.

Most likely they are staffed by Mormons and the connection never occurred to them.

Welcome, WendyCoug.

Yeah, I saw an article about the SLUT one. Apparently they had signs around town reading "Ride the SLUT". Nice.

Salt Lake Urban Transit would have been a much better name than TRAX.

Actually, they were T-shirts, not signs. But it appears that they are selling like hotcakes.
