In my Western Civ. class we read primary source documents every week. This week's document is Acts 18-28. I give a rinky-dink objective quiz to encourage attendance, reward those who read carefully, and to help foster discussion. Today's discussion focused on the spread of Christianity, folk religion (esp. magic), and life in the Roman east.

Today's questions:

1. According to this excerpt from Acts, at Ephesus, some of those who became Christian

a. collected and burned their expensive magic books.
b. started a riot in protest of pagan cults.
c. were thrown to the lions.
d. decided to found a new colony of Christians near Jerusalem.
e. None of these.


2. During the contentious meeting called by Demetrius at Ephesus, those assembled repeatedly shouted,

a. “By this sign we will conquer!”
b. “Death to the Christians!”
c. “Great is Jesus of Nazareth, the son of God!”
d. “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

3. In this selection from Acts, Paul identifies himself as
