to me it sounded more like, "well if SIEQ and Archaea are doing it, they must be doing it the wrong way."

Not paranoid.

Of course, it's an invalid question.

There are very few here who are academics employed in religious studies, so none of us are doing it for academic study.

It sounded like they took a very academic approach. And come to think of it, most of my scriptural conversations with them have been on an academic level.

Is there anything wrong with that? Nope. I was just curious if we revised the question to be more spiritually-oriented, how the responses would fall.

I am not employed as a scholar, so I don't read as a scholar.

What do you mean by reading it academically?

Do you mean reading them for deeper meaning?

What does academic study mean?

I'm using the term loosely. To me, it means studying language usage, etymologies, the historical context of events, geographies, etc. Taking a clinical approach.

That's different from, for a lack of a better word, a more "spiritual" approach ... seeking the Spirit during study, focusing on personal application, etc.

A combination of the two is necessary, I think, for an enriched study experience.

I think I'm going to puke from the overdose of piousness going on here.
