Temperature and water
Right now, it has been chilly up til this weekend. Which meant during a three hour ride I didn't even reach for the water bottle let alone drink.
However, during a hot day, I might drink two bottles for the same ride. So what's the longest distance you've ridden on one bottle?

Not sure. I wasn't riding for fitness. Was in Japan working, rode bike to ward activity, didn't estimate distance very well. When I finally got there, I pissed and it came out maroon red.
That's pretty dehydrated. |

My first year of serious riding and I was living in Boise. It was the 4th of July, 105 degrees and I decided to climb Bogus Basin for the first time. Bogus is a climb of 18 miles and 4200 vertical feet. Any way all I took was one of those little water bottles. By the time I got to the ski lodge I was ready to kill for a drink of water but it was closed so I had to ride another mile to some condos to find some water. It was one of those rides you remember for ever.

When its warm out, the longest I've gone without water is 18 miles. There's been a couple of times where I've left the house without any water and have bailed out early once I realized what a moron I was. I've gone about 35 miles in the summer on 1 bottle, but I don't like to. I like to drink. A lot.
BTW, everything that I've read says its as important to drink as much or more fluids in the cold as it is in the summer. I can't remember off the top of my head why, but you gotta drink even if you don't feel thirsty. |
