Default Anyone else bummed about the new apple iPod line?

I haven't had my nano a year yet and it's dated. Add to that the fact that an 8 Gig will now cost what 4 gigs cost last Christmas and I'm pissed. Oh well, I'm not upgrading for quite a while. The wife just wouldn't understand. I just hope any new Nike+ technology continues to work with my 2nd generation Nano.

Did you hear, yesterday Apple announced the 8 Gig iPhone is being reduced from $599 to $399, and they are discontinuing the 4 Gig model?

Yes, I heard that too. My wife was telling me today that her good friend's husband just bought an iPhone last week. He went back today to demand the new price and they told him they'd give it to him sans a 10% restocking fee. He said he refused to pay it and they finally caved and told him he'll get the new price.

This does seem punitive to some loyal customers though. I understand that you have to pay more to get the cool stuff early, but usually this ensures you'll have the cool stuff more than 6 months before it's cheap.

Last time I bought an iPod it was two days before the video iPod came out. And I was stupid enough to order the free name engraving from Apple (great marketing strategy, BTW) and therefore could not return it. Boy, was I pissed.

So last week we decide to get a new iPod for my son for his birthday. I told my wife "Everytime I buy something like this, they come out with a new product the next day." She told me I was being overly dramatic. So I buy him a new black 30GB iPod but I am careful not to open it (she thought we should open it and charge it - I said no way). We gave it to him yesterday. Before he opened it, I quickly checked the Apple website and voila! - they came out with a new iPod that very day. So I told him not to open it and I took it back and got a full refund.

That's why I use eBay. Got a 30 gig video iPod for $160 a few months ago. Said it was refurbished, and when I got it, it was good as new. At least I couldn't tell the difference. No scratches anywhere and it's worked great ever since.

Wow. That sounds like a good deal. Was it from a private individual or a business?

My younger son lost his iPod a couple of weeks ago (an old B&W version he got as a hand-me-down) and I am nervous to get him something too expensive given his track record. A used one may be just the ticket.

I'd bet the second generation nanos are about to get real cheap.

Am I so out if it because I don't even own a cell phone? My wife has one that I use on occasion, but I just have no desire to get one.

You could ask me before you make a purchase like that. It usually isn't a huge secret to those who pay attention to Apple when stuff like that is coming out. I held off on getting a new iPod for the last 6 months or so because of it... now I'm trying to figure out if I want the iPod Touch (really cool, I love the interface) or the 160 GB video and rip all of my movies. Tough call for me...
