Pullman is lucky or a brilliant self-promoter or something. First, he gets the people with the bumper stickers images of little footed fish to buy His Dark Materials as an anti-Christian's alternative to the Narnia stories. Then he gets one of the books made into a kids' fantasy adventure film, fully sanitized of the anti-Christian stuff, and released during the Christmas season! Talk about having your cake and eating it too. So much of bookselling is all about politics.
