Let's just consider ourselves fortunate (that we don't know anyone like him...). It still sickens me that he has sat on disciplinary councils (or at least claims as much)--Exhibit A that the church should not be conducting disciplinary councils.

I don't oppose the brethren. Sometimes my opinions don't match theirs, but it is not an effort to oppose them. It's not like I sit around and wait for them to take a position and then do the opposite.

Intent is not the issue. When you do something opposite what they counsel, you are opposing them.

I think they are opposing me. I developed my opinions before they proclaimed theirs. Besides that, I reject any stewardship that anyone thinks they have over me. If God has something to say, he is capable of telling it directly to me. My God is an efficient god. He doesn't waste time with third or fourth party proclamations.
