If civil unions are now acceptable in almost
all states, why are the gays pushing marriage. Civil unions give them the same rights as straights.

FWIW, the LDS church is officially against civil unions also. They changed a press release a couple of years ago to say something like "...marriage or any other legal relationship approaching marriage".
