To me, it generally means "teachings." So, the gospel of Jesus Christ simply refers to the teachings of Jesus Christ. This can be also seen in the titles of some of the books in the new testament: the gospel of Matthew, the gospel of Mark, etc.

I tend to think of it as the plan of Salvation and use it to differentiate between the "Gospel" (perfect) and the "Church" (imperfect).

Literally means the good story. Technically any account of the life and death of Christ. Used in evangelical circles to refer specifically to the plan for salvation.

Interestingly, the greek and latin words that we translate as gospel ended up giving us the word evangelism, which refers more to the preaching of the story than to the story preached.

But my first thought when I hear the word is truth.
