Default ER Cougar, Creekster, Goatnapper, Farrah

et al, The Stake Conference talk appears to be a step in the right direction.

The type of talk which might do a lot of good would be something of this order.

Folks, we your leaders have great compassion for you, and as you know we try to give you wise counsel, but there are many areas for which we do not have the knowledge or expertise. One of the areas where most of us lack the expertise in terms of the personal aspects of relationships.

Developing relationships is complex and often is done without good knowledgeable guidance. Although there may be reluctance in seeking professional counseling in these matters, we find such reluctance to counter-productive. We instead encourage good communication between marriage partners especially on matters of intimacy. We note we are often confronted with issues of intimacy and are ill-prepared to address it properly. We therefore counsel you to seek professional advice earlier rather than later.

Here's where Brother Goatnapper could give his pitch.

Well, that's better than a man telling a bunch of women, "Sisters, you must fake it till you make it!"

You might also mention that sexual dysfunction in women isn't always just a psychological issue, there could be physical issues as well. A talk with her gynecologist could also be helpful.

Of course.

It would be better to have the specialists perhaps speak in conference about some of the issues.

It's complex and we lay persons are ill-equipped to advise others unless we want them as messed up as the rest of us. If we're promoting eternal relationships, it might help if we gave good contemporary advice from those most qualified?

Which raises another question, why do our leaders assume they are prepared to counsel on so many areas for which professional training must be lacking?

I understand why it developed during the 19th century, when male leaders may have been the best available alternatives on the frontier. But we seem to have adopted that philosophy in our modern era. Certain notable exceptions are appearing, with the Church 12 step process for substance abuse.

I concur, plus you're likely to get more readers if they think this interests someone besides ER and I.

Country boys from Idaho know all about the birds and the bees and how to make the Cow really go mooooooooo!

The confusing issue comes when we slyly get to you women's folks' top shelf and are forced to face the unfortunate realization that you only got two bad boys with which we can play paddy cake! Maybee that is how the whole doggy style craze came about...the country's boy search for the missing udders! That or too many people follow Cheech or Chong as their sex therapist.
