In 1995 my dad got internet at home. I don't remember who it was through, but we had a limited number of hours -- something like 50 hours a month.

Lindsay: Well, did it work for those people?

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.

I was playing "Usurper" on a BBS at some point in the early 90s I'd guess. Text-based computer games were the poo.

Edit: Ok Usurper was creator in 1993, but was based on "Legend of the Red Dragon," which came out in 1989. I remember now that L.O.R.D was my favorite, but that I switched to Usurper because there were a lot more people playing that game on my BBS. Those were the days.

When I was ast USU in the early 90's, we wrote/hosted a MUD/MOO text-based online game. One of the things you could do is have a player pick up an object that they could not then put back down. So we littered the environment with such an object. What was it you ask?

An AOL disk. Remember how every magazine had them and you'd get them in the mail, etc. all the time? So that was the joke of it.

Geek humor I suppose.

I was a latecomer, I didn't use it until my freshman year in college, fall 1997. At first I thought that email addresses had to be entered exactly as they appeared, including the name and symbols, for example: "Tyler Williams" <twill@mail.utah.edu>. They all bounced of course, so I only wrote to those who I could use the reply function on.
