I found this article rather interesting:

Interesting observation:
Dr Gareth Jones, a climate researcher at the Met Office, said that Dr Solanki's findings were inconclusive because the study had not incorporated other potential climate change factors. "The Sun's radiance may well have an impact on climate change but it needs to be looked at in conjunction with other factors such as greenhouse gases, sulphate aerosols and volcano activity," he said. The research adds weight to the views of David Bellamy, the conservationist. "Global warming - at least the modern nightmare version - is a myth," he said. "I am sure of it and so are a growing number of scientists. But what is really worrying is that the world's politicians and policy-makers are not. "Instead, they have an unshakeable faith in what has, unfortunately, become one of the central credos of the environmental movement: humans burn fossil fuels, which release increased levels of carbon dioxide - the principal so-called greenhouse gas - into the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to heat up. They say this is global warming: I say this is poppycock."

The New Yorker had three outstanding (though overly dramatic) articles on global warming. Will try to dig them up.

I found that bit interesting too, Archaea.
Politicians need to accept what scientists tell them what is or isn't fact when it comes to this. As for me, I'll continue to drive my vehicles without guilt.

I don't see any reason to unnecessarily pollute and I don't see any reason to follow one stupid politician's understanding of science. And many stupid politicians grandstanding based on their limited knowledge of science is a basis to run and to hide.

I just want to know why I found this article in a London paper, but not in anything on this side of the Atlantic. Granted, I haven't searched much for it in US papers, but for once, I'd like to see something like this on the front page of the NY Times. Or talked about on CNN.

I figured that. That's why I like to watch BBC for news.

However, notice the date - 2004. I doubt this is still getting much play over there (if it ever was) and I dare say that the "man is causing catastrophic global warming and we have to take drastic measures to stop it" drumbeat continues unabated.

Get away from the debate over whether Man is causing global warming or not.
It is not disputed that global warming is occurring. It is fairly certain that severe changes could be catastrophic in terms of food production, rising oceans, etc. The real question is whether we humans can do anything about it. And this is where the GOP sticks their head in the sand. |
