Forrest Gump. Though, I did enjoy the book. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I read it before and not after I saw the movie.

The movie Bridge to Terabithia was as good as the book. I cried in both. Yes, it is a children's book/movie.

Neither scenario you painted captures the pain of being forced to read or watch that atrocity. I do give the nod to the movie, though. At least if you fall asleep (believe me, it is the only response you can have while watching that movie that doesn't lead to permanent physical harm), the movie will finish on its own (and when it is over, you can at least enjoy the delightful static noise and salt and pepper screen). If you fall asleep with the book, when you wake up, you realize you still have progressed no further than the first sentence.
What is it with you guys and the hate on Pride and Prejudice? The book certainly is better than the movie and it is an excellent movie.

I think a better question would be what is there to like about the book or the movie?

Personally, I find Austen and the Brönte sisters painfully boring. And don't get me started on Nathanial Hawthorne.

Good point. I was on pins and needles while reading Pride and Prejudice.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

I've heard from some that "Shawshank" would qualify. Anybody here read the book?

From "The Bizarro Jerry":

ELAINE: Kevin and his friends are nice people! They do good things. They read...
JERRY: I read!
ELAINE: Books, Jerry. They read books.
JERRY: [pause] Oh.
