I caught this on TV the other night. What a great movie. Julie Andrews had some pipes. It's no wonder Captain Von Trapp had it for her. OTOH, the Baroness was no slouch. Though I can't see her hiking the mountains to escape the Nazis.

Oh, come now, Creek. I for one appreciate Y's sincere pontificating on the merits of such a highly regarded cinematic classic. And honestly, I find his affection for twentieth century musical film quite moving. And his willingness to admit this secret love affair is bravery such that even Seattle's dedication to the ballet pales in comparison.

Personally, Sound of Music's not my favorite musical, but I can see where an argument could be made. That scene where Rolf encounters the Captain! What tension! What drama!

Anyhow Y, you just nevermind Creek. He's probably a closet musical lover himself. I bet he sings "Bali Hai" in the shower. So you feel free to extol the virtues of Rogers and Hammerstein anytime you like. Batgirl's got your back.

(Just be sure to let us know if you decide to make yourself overalls out of floral curtains. We'll want photographic evidence to avoid any glaring omissions in Cougarguard's sartorial photo gallery. Thanks in advance.)

I have a GREAT idea. First, be aware that my last mission residence was a three-minute walk from the Von Trapp house in the film (the front part, that is; the back with the lake is a different house in the same general area). I know every film location very well, including the Abbey, the church where they got married, every locale for "I have confidence" and "Do Re Mi", and the "I am sixteen going on seventeen" gazebo. I've returned multiple times since my mission and have taken several friends on Sound of Music tours.

So, whenever you're ready, we can have a CG field trip and I'll take you on a tour of a lifetime. Until then, we can meet at my house and watch the movie while we brush each other's hair.

One other note, while I was on my mission a BYU Study Abroad group came through and sang Edelweiss, expecting the Salzburg branch to be deeply moved by the touching performance. Didn't happen, mainly because the song was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The Austrians had never heard the song before the movie came out, and they had long grown tired of Americans asking them to sing it.

A chimp? Ha, those stupid fat chimps with their stubby arms and inability to swing through the trees wiothout breaking every branch within 10 feet of there disgustingly human like bodies. Could a chimp do this?

If a chimp had tried it it would have been tiger chow before you could say "tasty." Not only that, but chimps always sing everything flat.
