Breaking five hours shouldn't be that
tough, but it is.
You only need to average 23 mph. If I fueled and had the right course, I believe I should be able to do it solo, but should and actually doing are two different things.

Do the ULCER; you'll do it there I suspect. It is a fast course.

23? Why not 20? 100 miles / 5 hours = 20 mph.
I'm confused... Either way... I don't know if I could keep that up for 5 hours. So far the longest day I have spent on a bike (road bike) is about 4 hours. Side note... My longest day ever on a Mtn Bike was somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 - 13 hours. FWIW that is a LONG freakin' day in Moab.

By century I mean 109 to 115 miles, not 100 miles.
I don't know of any "centuries" which are only 100 miles. By the time one reaches 124, that consitutes a double metric. It would be really cool, but I don't see it happening to do the 112 miles of an Ironman near 5 hours. From training rides, I imagine 5 hours 15 would be about as fast as I could maintain. My recent Idaho ride left me disappointed but it had between 7 and 8000 feet of climbing.
