I once sat next to Elder Lavell Edwards during a temple endowment session back in the early 90's. It was a fantastic experience, even if it was at 5:00 in the morning. It was one of the few early morning endowment sessions I actually stayed awake during.
Thats the closest I've ever come to interacting with a general authority. |

My Mom's brother was in the First Quorum for about 15 years before he 'was retired'. He's still very actively involved working for the Church in a number of roles - represents the Church in SLC & Utah community program planning committees. He has daily interaction with a number of the 12. He writes talks for some of them. He's still very well conected.
It's funny to talk to him, because there are definite 'cliques' (for lack of a better word) among the heirarchy: These guys get along really well, but they disagree with these three guys on tons of issues, and the third group can't stand this guy in this group, but they like everyone else, and... They are real people with real people egos and issues and opinions. And yet they still manage to do a pretty good job at running hte Lord's Church...

Interestingly, I was going to say that the only current GA to which I am a blood relative (that I know of) is James E. Faust. But that would be a day late. And we aren't close relatives.

How could I have forgotten? I interviewed with Bednar for a faculty position at BYU-Idaho shortly after they announced the change to a 4 year university. I was very impressed with him - but he must not have been with me, I didn't get the position.

My cousin married the daughter of Elder Burton (presiding bishop). When our great-grandfather passed away, he attended the funeral. That was the only time I met him and probably the only time I will. The cousin was raised in NC, got married while attending school in UT, and now they are back in NC.
