Default Greg Olson Art

I am sure most of you know the artist Greg Olson. For years, my wife has been on a crusade to get more religious art in our house and has pressured me to let her buy more Greg Olson art (we have one piece). I have nothing against religious art per se, but I argue that I want quality art and any piece, religious or otherwise, should be judged on that standard. I have also argued that I want something semi-unique. An LDS home full of Greg Olson art is as non-unique as it gets.

Well, yesterday I ventured up to the Costco in Orem and I discovered that they now have a large section in the warehouse dedicated to Greg Olson art. Nothing screams "artistic sellout" quite like selling your prints at Costco. I feel completely vindicated.

I recommend looking into some of the artwork found in The Watchtower and other Jehovah's Witness publications.

Yes I have several paintings of blissful people of all races hauling wheelbarrows full of the harvest's bounty on my condo walls.

You could probably find Monet and Van Gogh in the poster section of a place like Costco, too. You could be somewhat unique in buying Greg Olson if you bought the limited prints larger sizes or giclees and not the open edition smaller sizes. You might try Liz Swindle, also. I like LDS/Christian art, and though it may not be the highest quality compared to the masters, it creates an atmosphere in the home that I like.

My mother in law and Greg olson are very good friends. She has several original paintings of his in her house. She will not buy a print it has to be an original i call her house "the Jesus Museum" It is nothing but pictures of Christ.

She spends anywhere from 2500-10k on the paintings then has them framed professionally. She also does a slide presentation at church buildings all over the valley about Jesus and she is the only person allowed to use his pictures. He has given her permission to use his paintings for whatever she needs and she has full access to his studio.

What's your point? Selling your art alongside cheap posters featuring public domain works of long-dead artists is not something to brag about.

Thanks, but not the level of uniqueness I am looking for.

For some reason I have never liked her work. And again, dime a dozen.

My brother is an artist (went to school with Greg Olson, btw). I keep telling him to take a shot at religious art. That's where the easy cash is. He insists on doing nature scenes and western art.
