The Trial of the French Mission
I found this to be a very interesting read (although Dialogue could do a much better job of making their library more user friendly).
I've seen no lingering effects of Elder William Tucker. The Trial of the French Mission

Does going on a mission to Europe count as torture? I sure thought so at times.

Wow, what a heart-wrenching experience.
Something of a cautionary tale for those who would steady the ark, I think. (And did Tucker remind anyone else of someone we know?) |

A moving article, and hopefully a lesson in how not to interview.
Why would you ask if somebody "knew" somebody was a prophet and not whether you believe it?

I figured you'd focus on the perceived shortcomings of the priesthood leaders in this story. Kinda eerie, actually.

I'm comfortable that the leaders probably also asked themselves the same questions. The use of the word "know" is very unique in our subculture. You may not be aware of it, as you have grown up hearing people say they "know" something which almost all other peoples in the world would designate as "belief". Obviously the leaders could not know what was on Elder Harvey's mind, but I wonder if he would had stayed at that critical juncture had it been phrased in terms of belief, not knowledge. My epistemology allows me to straddle the chasm of Mormonism and other philosophies, but most others don't care or care not to be aware of the difference. Perhaps Elder Harvey became stronger through his excommunication, I know not, but his father suffered terribly as a result.

Didn't you focus on a particular aspect of the story, too? Maybe there are lessons to be learned on both sides of the story.
