Tex seems to be getting desperate and frustrated.

He was posting a LOT the week after the RNC. He was walking on sunshine, claiming that he could not have imagined how things could have gone any better for the Repubs.

Now, he is rarely posting, and when he does, he is grumpy, blaming the "gotcha" media (a vast media conspiracy....where have we heard that one before?), and basically steadfast in his unwillingness to admit that the Republicans not only screwed up the election, but they screwed up the White House.

Tex is like the "Nearer My God to Thee" musicians on Titanic: admirable, but ultimately, fish food.*

* partial credit to Jeff Lebowski for his prior reference to the Titanic tragedy

Surely she's not that out of touch with reality? She's clearly throwing McCain and the campaign under the bus, but she has to know she has no future in the White House.

Don't get me wrong- I don't think she can win in 2012, but I think her and Huckabee would make a strong run for the nomination. The Republican party is lost right now. Are they a fiscal conservative party? Not really. The people running the show right now seem to be far more interested in religion and social conservatism than they are in fiscal conservatism. McCain was part fiscal conservative, part national security conservative, and he generated very little enthusiasm among Republican ranks until he put Palin on the ticket. Now McCain is a bit of a sideshow, with Palin taking center stage at the rallies and generating interest among donors.

Who emerges for Republicans in 2012? Romney? Maybe, but one gets the feeling that that ship has sailed. The social nuts in the Republican party made it clear they didn't want anything to do with a McCain-Romney ticket. Giuliani? Certainly not. Pawlenty? Boring. Jindal? Tough to get past practicing voodoo and still get elected (or even nominated, given his base). Petraeus? Hasn't expressed any interest at all, and there isn't any clear indication he is even Republican. Powell? That ship has sailed.

The base has indicated a strong preference for social conservatism at the top of the ticket. There aren't many prominent members of the Republican party who are solid on social, fiscal and national security conservative credentials. It is a bit of a miracle Reagan cobbled together that coalition. Bush broke it apart. McCain finished it off. Will it get pieced back together again or remain in shambles? If it stays in shambles, Palin/Huckabee could have a shot at the nomination (but not the election).
