Will somebody please explain what is wrong with the Cougars?
I can't watch, and refuse to get up early to listen (although I did listen to the UCLA game). Maybe I'm still delirious over football and Curtis Brown relieving Tate of his manhood. Anyway, barely scraping by ISU and WSU and getting beat by BSU is not what I expected this year. What is going on? Is there any hope of them getting better by the time conference games start? On paper, I thought this was supposed to be a pretty good team. And I'm still waiting for Cummard to be all that.

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!! Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |

The problem right now is 2 things in my opinion: Chemistry and Confidence and right now they have neither as a squad. They'll beat San Jose State at home on Wed, but against Michigan State at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday they'll likely get killed unless they can find some chemistry and find it quick. Plaisted hasn't figured out how to be effective when double teamed and really seems to struggle when the ball isn't in his hands. The offense is designed to go through him, but since he's struggling, the team has started going to Keena, and he's delivering.

I was expecting big things from the basketball team this year, but boy am I likely to be disappointed.
I failed to analyze how bad our point guard situation is. We didn't upgrade as we needed. Next, we have no help at point coming in, as it appears we have more of the same.

There's no reason to believe we'll be any worse than we were last year. We ought to be better with everyone a year improved and only losing Riechner, who wasn't that important to the team, IMHO.
But we're not playing like that now. Plaisted has reverted. He's not playing confident. I thought it would be easy to pick up Riechner's scoring slack, but Balderson/Cummard aren't able to right now. Broadus is playing poorly. Ainge has done OK, but Broadus has more upside and he's not getting it done. Basically Keena's improved but no one else is. I don't expect us to lose many MWC home games and we'll get a few on the road, but right now this team has got to make some major improvements or they have no chance at the Big Dance. |
