Default Recruiting Today

BYU did okay in the state of Utah and not so well outside the state.

Unfortunately, BYU's rival, Utah, had a small class but signed more highly rated players outside the state. Those on CB are crowing about defeating Utah for the in-state players but ignore some of the good recruits Utah signed outside the state including a BYU legacy player, Unotoa, out of Hawaii.

BYU may have filled some needs, signing DLine prospects, a safety, some tight end prospects and a kicker.

BYU whiffed on wide receivers and didn't go after any running backs.

In the days of LaVell, it was not unheard of for BYU to be in the 20s and 30s. Utah's average star rating score was approximately 21.

BYU is in the 60s, and might squeak into the high 50s. Nothing special with no super-highly rated recruits; those went to USC and Washington.

Really hard to say. Recruiting is a crap shoot.

About one out of four actually contributes significantly. The problem BYU has is it recruits hard-working types who are smart but maybe already at the top of the talent.

The top schools want athletic beasts that the coaches can mold and teach. They like them a bit raw. BYU rarely gets the amazing athlete, Ziggy being an exception.

I don't know if BYU signed any raw athletes that might develop. Bronco never liked primadonnas but wanted the over-achievers. That's okay for walk-ons, but not okay for your starters.

Recruiting has not improved numerically since Bronco.

That said, I can't imagine it not improving over someone who didn't put an emphasis on it, and didn't kiss up to blue chip recruits.

The most important thing--is Sitake a better judge of talent when it comes to recruiting, regardless of stars?

Time will tell.

With the BYU limitation, missions, it is more time than we care to admit.
