Default Mounting a television...

So, if you decide to mount a television on a wall in your living rooml...what height should it be at. I hear eye level, but it seems weird to have it mounted so low to the ground. Any suggestions. For example, a 47" tv would be mounted so that the bottom of the tv would be around 36-38" off the ground and the top of the tv would be around 70" off the ground. Is that too high?
