Default So i am not really a do-it-yourselfer

However we just had our sod and sprinklers put in. But my wife wants to line our driveway with the brick that matches our house. I decided i can do this myself.

This Brick will be on the ground, what do i use as a fill?

It depends on what look you are going for...

If you want the bricks to look nice and neat and square and not get "bumpy" you need to dig down about 2" below the level of the bricks and lay a nice bed of sand. Depending on the soil you may want to go down 3 inches, lay 1" of pea gravel, and 2" of sand.

Then place the bricks (don't use real bricks, buy pavers) neatly along the driveway.

Pavers usually have little ridges that make placement easy. You put them right next to each other but it allows just a little bit of space for the fill to get in there.

When they're down you tamp them in place.

Then you pour sand over the bricks, sweep it back and forth (fills in the cracks), tamp, sweep, tamp, sweep, etc...

I guess I should clarify a few things. 2" below the bricks means you take the level at which you want the top of the paver to sit (flush with driveway?), dig down the thickness of the paver and then 2" more.

If you're going right next to a driveway you're going to run into some problems with the sloppy edge from when they poured your driveway. Sometimes when they pour concrete there is a little lip where the concrete got under the borders when they did the pour.

Sand = silica sand. It can be hard to find in small quantities so you may have to look for "play sand."

I've done about 10 of these projects... They can be a pain in the arse. You may want to look at your material costs and see if it would be worth getting somebody to curbmate your driveway in stead.
