Default What is the best tax software?

I've used turbo tax for the last several years but was wondering if there was another out there that would be better for the money.

Any suggestions?

I've been using TaxCut for the last several years. I think it works pretty well. My wife uses Microsoft Money to keep track of our finances and they generally have bundle discounts on that software with TaxCut.

Turbo tax has always worked like a dream for me. I bought the deluxe version this time, though, because I have a lot of deductions (bought a house last fall) and it purports to make figuring all of that out easier. So, we'll see. The basic version seemed to work fine in the past few years, though.

If you know what you're doing and your taxes are fairly simple, this is good.

http://www.esmarttax.com/

I've used it for a few years. It takes me 30 minutes start to finish to file fed and state, I think it costs $15 total, and I get my return dropped in my bank in about a week and a half.

I have been using TurboTax, and mostly for laziness continue to use it (it fills in a lot of the stuff from the past years return). One thing I noticed is they try to get you to buy more expensive versions than you really need. I file Scheds A, B, C and D, and they suggest certain versions would "make it easier" to keep track and report capital gains, for example, but in reality I don't it think it does much for you beyond Deluxe. I use Quicken to keep track of investments and Sched C expenses.

Do you suckers know nothing about the founding of our nation? You don't have to pay federal taxes.
