Pardon me while I flaunt my ignorance, but is this a real place? El Suburbio? I'm guessing it eventlually transitions into El Ruralio?

El Suburbio was quite the place. I spent a little bit of time there. I remember the stilt houses built over the water. The toilets in the houses consisted of a hole in the floor, with the waste going directly into the water below (of course this didn't discourage the children from swimming in the water). Ah, the memories!

I served in the Netherlands, Amsterdam Mission. About 8 months in, the mission split and I was sent to the newly freestanding Antwerpen, Belgium Mission (where they speak the Flemish dialect of Dutch). My understanding is that both missions have been combined again.

I just threw up in my mouth a little...

Reminds me of the "black" rivers in Mexico City...

Last I heard they were combined. My father, both of my uncles, my father in law, my grandfather and my wife's grandfather served in the Netherlands. We're kind of a dutch family.

Unfortunately the only dutch I know is...

"I have cheese in my pants" (long but funny story)
"Nut Sack"
"Have you seen my shoes?"

Japan Kobe. My mission no longer exists. Someone must have started doing some ROI analysis, Japan versus places like Eastern Europe and Africa.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
