Default "Charity" HP ordinations

What is the policy on this? Can you be ordained a HP without any calling that requires you to be HP?

I think the answer is yes, but it is generally not done. usually they will call that person to be the secretary of the HP quorum.

It's pretty rare, from what I can tell, to be active in the church your whole life, and still be in the EQ at 50 or 60 years old.

Who can originate the process for getting someone ordained? For example, can a man ask to be ordained? Can the HP group leader put in a request? Can a Bishop make a request? And who makes the decision?

That's what happened to me.

And let me tell you, the HP lessons beat the EQ lessons by a mile.

One of the newer requirements is not to beat up on SWK on internet messageboards.

It's usually dependent upon the bishop's recommendation.

Bishop or HPGL submits the name to the Stake. Stake President makes the decision. I suppose a person can ask to be ordained an HP although I've never known anyone to do so. Usually, the EQP will look through the quorum and notice that Bro. X is getting up in years and will say to the Bishop "Maybe Bro. X should be a HP?" Bishop may either submit the name for ordination sometimes they just invite Bro. X to attend priesthood with the HPs without actually ordaining him an HP.

What's bizarre are the very few people that are still Seventies. I think they got rid of Seventies quorums back in the early 80s or thereabouts. You don't run into too many people these days that were Seventies when they disbanded those quorums in the 80s but never got made HPs.

We have one sevnetry in our ward. He has made it known that he does not want to bne HP becasue he loves missionary work and sees that as his responsibility as a seventy.

Too bad they got rid of the Seventies. Being called to that actually meant you had a specific destiny. That would have been cool.

I wonder if poor misssionary efforts in the USA are linked to this.

In some wards, what happens is the allowance for older Elders to attend HP Group, without making the ordination until a calling requires it. That's what happens in ours, and I agree HP lessons are vastly better than EQ's.
