Ogden Temple
Church admits "mea culpa" on Ogden Temple. It was long offensive to anyone that care a whit about design, and now the church admits as much. The exterior is going to be razed.
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/51...ction.html.csp Dallas Temple is hideous. It's basically a stake center with a sign that says "temple". |

I'm mostly kidding about how ugly it looks. Because in some ways, I kind of like ugly.
But one mark against it is the fact that the Provo temple looks exactly the same. Carbon-copy ugly is indeed ugly. Not too long ago, I was at the DC temple, and boy does that stand in stark contrast. It's like a castle. But I don't know that that is really important or adds much. The temple is in the heart after all. |

Of course, something pedestrian may be useful when cost is a premium.

I wasn't a fan of the thumbtack style, but I like a little diversity of style nevertheless. So I hope thay keep Provo as is. And re: DC I think the large castle structure serves an interesting purpose because it's so visible from the Beltway. People notice it and know where it is, some even stop by to try to see it. It's a traffic marker on the radio. For whatever that's worth. . . |

I like the architecture of the DC temple. And it is right off the Beltway. The Seattle temple is one that's a little hard to get to, but it is interesting. I like the positioning of the Madrid temple, together with MTC, and great grounds.

I'm actually a little disappointed to hear this, actually. Visually the Provo and Ogden temples do look odd. But when the imagery was explained to me (cloud and pillar of fire) it made more sense. Ruined now, of course, by the whitewashing of the Provo steeple.

I don't know anything about a cloud and a pillar of fire. Or about whitewashing the steeple. Ah, Provo, I miss you sometimes.

Then maybe a decade or so ago (can't remember), they whitewashed the steeple so the whole temple would be white, and added a Moroni. That ruins the imagery, of course, and makes the already odd design totally pointless. But I guess having it all white was considered more important.
