You hit the nail squarely on the head with this, regarding the world of academia and more importantly, why Obama would be bad for the country.

I am interested in hearing from the Obama supporters how they think a far leftie is going to pull of uniting the country except through trickery and deceit.

I think that being a "uniter" is one of those things that everyone just assumes is a good idea without any critical examination of that idea. What is a uniter anyway? All of our best presidents were also some of the most controversial with the exception of Washington. Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, Reagan, just to name a few, all had very vehement opposition. They did garner more support than many others ultimately, but they didn't do it through compromise. They did it by staking out the correct position.

This country does not thrive on new agey ideas of unity of Kumbaya and unity. It thrives on the conflict of competing ideas and interests. Hopefully the better idea wins out. That is when real unity happens. The only other time it happens is when you fold to the other side. Hitler was a uniter. Stalin too.

I'm much more concerned that a person be right and able able to accomplish what they say their agenda is. I don't give a rats ass about unity. Who cares.
