absolutely - I find Andy Samburg and his digital shorts very funny. Actually the current cast is pretty good. Not as good as the original cast, or the cast with Chris Farley, but still pretty good.
I TIVO SNL so I can skip through some of the stuff that is not that funny. 50% of the value of SNL is in the Weekend Update and the political skits. |

The "old days" is a myth. The show has survived so long because it constantly adapts and launches a lot of huge talent. Truthfully, looking back, Chevy Chase stumbling around as a drunken Gerald Ford was funny then.....it wouldnt be funny now....too Keystone Kop. Also, back then, they rarely made an effort to actually look like the people they portrayed. They simply declared that they were a certain public figure and starting talking. The show is much better these days in many aspects and there are just as many classic sketches in the modern era than there were in the old days. The gems from the early episodes are great, though. And it is cool to see some of the music guests back in their infancy.

He did do King Tut, he was a Wild and Crazy guy, played the banjo, etc on SNL. Frankly, as a host, he has been on more than most anybody (tom hanks, alec baldwin are up there, too, maybe more), but frankly, besides the really old sketches, I am not sure he has done too many super memorable ones in the last 15 or so years. He may have belted out a random funny one, but I cant seem to recall any recurring sketches based on the popularity of the character. Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me!

BTW, why did you exclude Norm MacDonald from the list? I can't think of anyone who was funnier doing Weekend Update.

Norm is a genius. and I have enjoyed Justin Timberlake guesting on the show. His spoof of punked and dick in a box will be classics. The kid is a overall talent.
