The media and the team
It's amused me over the years how Gordon Monson can really rile up BYU fans in Utah. And how BYU fans really would like 4 or 5 Dick Harmons instead.
Here in Dallas, boy, the Dallas media is very critical of the only game in town--the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones is mocked and criticized all the time. Wade Phillips is often made out to be a buffoon. Even the "beloved" players are heavily criticized at times (see Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson). You could never in a million years imagine BYU fans liking this kind of coverage of their team. I think it comes down to this. The people, that is the fans, feel like they own the Cowboys, and the owner, GM, the coaches and the players serve the fans. Or at least ought to. Long after Jerry Jones is dead and decomposing (psych, he's half plastic, he's not going to decompose for another 200 years), it will still be the Cowboys and most will probably be breathing "good riddance." Boy, you could make a living being one of the very few to poke BYU fans, coaches and players in the ass. Oh wait, someone already does. His name is Monson. |
