Espionage
The recent discussions on torture have made me analyze where I stand on various political issues. One of the more interesting conversations I had with myself was on the issue of spying.
Spies are paid to live in the shadows. They violate laws, treaties, pacts and trust. They live a life of deception and they may involve their families. One of their main methods of obtaining information is to persuade others to commit treason against their own nation, which may even be our ally. Is the life of a spy one of honor? Can it be? How does a spy reconcile his/her career with the teachings of the gospel? Is anybody on this board anti-espionage? I'm not interested in revisiting the torture debate, so please leave that discussion on the other threads. |

I love John Le Carre books. It's all about the psychology of betrayal. And what it takes to do that.
