This is one of the dumbest things I've heard from a large number of BYU fans in a long time.

Either recruiting's important or it's not. Obviously it is. No college fan would disagree.

Either this class is good or it's not. I'm convinced it's 1) marginally worse but not ridiculously worse than it's been the last five years but more importantly 2) it's not nearly as good as it COULD have been considering the huge amount of LDS talent we missed on.

Not only did we lose a ton of recruits to BCS schools, but arguably Utah had as good as year we did with the top 15 or so LDS recruits. We got a few, they got a few.
Better put than me. I know we lost some kids last year. We lost some with Crowton also, and we will continue to lose these kids as long as there is a BCS and we are not apart of it. The Ngatas, Kaviengas and alot of the legit 4-5 star LDS athletes will choose to go to a BSC school. Especially when you can't find BYU on a TV. Do you think it was a coincidence Bronco mentioned this at the press conference? Utah is losing the same type of recruits to the BCS and because BM nor Whit can say we play on ESPN and ABC.

Maybe soon they can say we play on CBS but I doubt it.

I just don't think this class is as bad as people think it is. We just missed the most visible recruits. My post was meant to say I don't care much for HB's judgment anymore.

What do you expect Bronco to say? "Uhhh.... Sorry fans, these guys we recruited really suck. We were hoping to get guys with more stars, but we struck out this year."

Now I can see the comeback to this being Bronco winning with Crowton's recruits but Bronco's recruits are already big contributers on the team.
Those "great" Crowton classes finally reached upperclassmen status under Bronco, so you can't separate one from the other.

He says you have a problem when your star in your class is a kicker and then your coach says he doesn't have to worry about stars because he has 22 wins in the last two seasons. But he doesn't mention that he is 3-6 against BCS.

BYU is 12-20 against BCS teams, most of which are not even the better ones in their leagues.
So Austin Holt is chopped liver? 12-20 against BCS teams? From when to when?

Thats the problem though. Why can't the coaching staff sell these recruits on the school so they want to come. Utah I can understand, but BYU should have a huge leg up in getting the LDS recruits. It is troubling that BM can't seal the deal.

How much of that is due to the BCS system making the rich richer and the poor poorer?

Run this against only BCS teams.

Why should we expect that BYU should be the default choice for top-notch LDS athletes? Face it, if we're going head-to-head against USC, it's no contest if all that recruit is interested in is how good the football program is.
