Why is a woman PM tolerated in Pakistan
but no woman would rise to such power in Iran or Saudi Arabia.
Why is that? Besides the obvious answer that women are treated terribly in iran and saudi arabia. I guess, the question is then, why would women be treated better in Pakistan? Or is it just Bhutto who is treated better solely because she is the daughter of her famous father? |

Bhutto arose in a country with significant diversity and which has significant nonsectarian stratas. Saudi Arabia is afflicted with Wahhabiism, and Iran is beset by the Ayatollahs, a sectarian form of Islamic government. Bhutto certainly enjoyed some status as a a daughter of a famous father. And although I agree with western values on the treatment of women, concluding Pakistan treats women better than Iran is certainly a cultural conclusion.

Pakistanis don't have the same cultural heritage that the Saudis do. Not all of what happens to women in Saudi Arabia is due to Islam.
