For me, unless I'm going a long way for an exotic place, the locale doesn't really matter, it's the company I keep. With a friend heading to the car dealership can be a blast, or checking out new bikes can be fantastic. Conversely, with the wrong person, almost anything can be miserable.

I suppose that's pretty accurate. I like camping, hiking, sleeping in a tent, and grubbing around in the dirt, but only for limited periods of time.

There are some things I like doing so much, that it would take someone with a truly repulsive personality to ruin the experience for me, but I see your point. I think the guy and I broke up on Sunday, so the friend in question is a girl, but one my best friends, so we'll have fun.

The ferry takes a couple of hours to get there and once you are there, your reaction will be...."This is it?" Some people will go..."But ooo..you can go up and see the Wrigley Mansion". Whoopdedoo...you're already within a short drive of lots of mansions where you live.

Eat lunch at the clubhouse
Go to a matinee
Find a pretty place for a late evening walk/hike
Go to a nice place for dinner
Come home and get cozy in bed with a good book or pop in an old movie favorite

My birthday wish:

A long bike ride with friends, dropping a few of them up a hill. Followed by lots of liquids, sitting and eating all you can eat sushi.

Afterwards sitting down and reading a book, talking to friends and having some laughs.

There's more to Catalina than Wrigley Mansion and the casino. If you're into snorkeling, it's a great place. I understand now they even have bison there, so shooting wildlife - with a camera folks - is something that I would enjoy.

Every time we go to Catalina we have a really nice time.

The one summer camp at Emerald Bay was the best boy scout summer camp experience I ever had. We set traps for boars, paddled canoes around the coves, went waterskiing, motorboating, and helped sail a schooner. It was really fun.
