That strikes me as being totally unhelpful.

It assumes that the person to whom the quote is directed IS currently going to church, then it suggests that that person really should reevaluate why they go to church (which presumably would, in the author's opinion, lead to a decision on the part of the person to whom the quote is directed that attending church really shouldn't be an activity they engage in).

Why would any LDS person make that part of an argument? Isn't it GOOD that someone attends church, even if you think they are a bad person? Isn't it better they attend than not attend?

I think all too often LDS people are more focused on eliminating people they think are bad from the church instead of focusing on bringing more people into the church. Doesn't make any sense to me.
I think I've given my opinion on this particular question before, but I think that it is a lot like saying "how can you be a Democrat and be Mormon?" Its not really a question is it? Its a statement that insinuates that you can't or shouldn't.

As I've said, its not a useful thing to ask in this context.

What is a "true believer" as opposed to a believer.

Could you like give me a 10 criteria summary. I am pretty sure I am not a "true" anything, but still am curious.

I'm not describing what a "true believer" is; I'm referring to how posters choose to identify themselves. Some claim they have a fervent testimony. Some claim they used to believe but don't anymore. Some claim they never believed.

I haven't attempted in my post to categorize anyone.

I am not trying to turn this into a thread of personal attacks.

I just don't understand the mentality of an LDS member that it may be desireable to push another LDS member out the door.

Do you know anyone on this board who has advocated that?

While that may not have been your intent, pat yourself on the back my friend; threads full of personal attacks > threads that lack personal attacks in nearly every instance.

Like I said, I find comments such as "Why are you even a member" to mean exactly that.

So you are not labeling anyone as a "claim to be a true believer", but if such a person existed they could be compared to the people you are not labeling as "claim to be non-believers". Statistically I guess that makes sense.
