By swapping the state abbreviation in the string, the link goes to a similar page for all states. Wow. Dukakis carried WA -one of only 10 states he did carry.

I thought this was interesting...

"Overall, Dukakis won a higher percentage (45.65%) of the popular vote than either Walter Mondale in 1984 (40.56%) or Bill Clinton (in a three-way race) in 1992 (43.01%)."

Huckabee is not right-wing fringe. He is, ironically, trying to portray himself as that. But in reality he is a social conservative, and a moderate on economic issues, and a complete idiot on national defense.

I suppose that is a distinction worth making, but when I think of right wing fringe it is social issues I am thinking of. Far right wingers on economics are called libertarians and far right wingers on defense are neo-cons. Or at least that is how i think of it, and actually I find a great deal of libertarianism attractive.

For the Republican Party that I want to come out of this, I think Tex is right, I would pull for a Huckabee win tomorrow. I can't see either one of them winning the general election; Huckabee for obvious reasons and McCain because he can't energize the base. His base is independents and Dems. Why would they vote for McCain over Clinton or Obama?

Either way, one of them takes a big hit tomorrow and will be out after Feb 5.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
